Vehicle theft a growing pain in South Africa

A significant spike in hijackings has led to vehicle tracking devices increasingly becoming more mandatory for insurance purposes in South Africa.  Some insurers require an additional (second) tracking unit in certain vehicles.

According to recent data from Tracker, keyless remote entry/access has been reported as one of the most common forms of vehicle theft.  The data also revealed a 12% increase in vehicle theft in 2022 compared to the previous year.

74% of incidents in the Western Cape are as a result of hijackings.

Early Warning on tracking devices can really make the difference – the few seconds/minutes additional head start can lead to a successful recovery.  Tracker recently also mentioned in an article that by using a Faraday Pouch for your keyless remote entry/access can also help deter signal cloning/jamming.
