Did you perhaps get an expensive gift for Christmas? Remember to update your insurance

“Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting”.

Did you receive an expensive watch or blessed your child with a new laptop? People sometimes forget to update their insurance policies to make provision for new additions.

With the start of a new year, it is a good idea to review your policy and assess whether your insurance needs have changed – This way you can ensure your policy is up to date.

Perhaps you were fortunate enough to receive a year-end bonus and maybe used the funds for home improvements and renovations to your house. This will enhance the value of your home and your policy needs to be adjusted accordingly. If you do not update your insurance policy, it could leave you under-insured and you will only be paid out partially for a loss.

It is advisable to keep an inventory of all your possessions and to keep proof of ownership should your insurer request it at claim stage. Nobody wants to keep unwanted boxes and most of the time space is limited, but photographs and sale receipts including valuation certificates can prove ownership.

A photograph can also include details of the item such as the make, model and serial number. It is important to remember to update this inventory whenever needed.

Now is a great time to review your insurance. Please contact us if you would like to make any changes or if you would like us to provide you with an inventory form to assist you in determining the value of your house contents.
