Gas Installations – Do you have all the required documentation to claim?

Gas Installation Regulations

Gas has become a more popular commodity due to the rising cost of electricity. Gas installation regulations are an important aspect of gas safety in South Africa. These regulations aim to ensure that the use of gas is safe and does not pose a risk to the environment and human health.

It is of utmost importance that LP Gas systems be installed per the SABS requirements (SANS 10087 – South African National Standards).  An installation certificate must be obtained for any property with a gas installation after October 2009, and the Certificate of Compliance issued must be in the name of the property owner.

Gas Installations for which a Certificate of Compliance are required is for all domestic and commercial gas appliances – This includes, but is not limited to, the below-mentioned built-in appliances:

  • Gas fireplaces, braais/barbeques
  • Gas cooking appliances, i.e. stoves, ovens, deep fryers, etc.
  • Gas geysers or hot water systems.

Always ensure that you have the required Certificate of Compliance as failure to provide this document when required by insurers at claim stage may result in the insurance company rejecting your claim.
